Summer Wool Long Sleeve Merino Wool Pocket Tee - Khaki

I purchased (2) shirts, one in Silver Pine and this one in Khaki. I’m not sure why the color should make a difference, but this khaki version has a ‘gritty’ feel to the fabric vs. the more smooth feel of the silver pine. Hence the silver pine gets a 4-star rating. I know, why not five stars? A tad of winter bias may be to blame. These are correctly labeled “Summer Wool”…and therefore , quite thin and marginally more capable of retaining warmth, than a similarity weighted performance fabric. Still, cost of owning aside, as one would not generally consider these ‘cheap’…I would choose these wool t-shirts over the aforementioned fabric; primarily, for wool’s ability to regulate core temperature. With that said, I don’t think you’re going to be comfortable with just this as a base layer under under a mid-weight jacket, in temps nearing freezing. Maybe you…not me. And lastly, my initial impression was sullied by the shirts’ smell. Right out of the packaging, they didn’t smell ‘nice’. I really made the mistake of not washing them immediately, and wore the khaki shirt to bed that night. After a brief snooze under a down comforter, I found myself awakened to sweating and a most awful pungency, of which can only be described (as my wife put it)…the mingling of aldehyde chemicals and sewage. I literately thanked God (after washing both shirts and all the bedding), that THAT smell had been eliminated. And don’t look at me…I’m not a ‘stinker’ - we all know someone; I just ain’t that…
