This Merino Wool Sun Shirt Hoodie in Silver Pine is perfect for summertime adventures with its ultralight Nuyarn® merino wool fabric and UPF 40 sun protection. Made in the USA, this hoodie is ultra-fast drying, extremely breathable, and durable making it the ideal choice for any outdoor activity including cycling, hiking, fishing, and water sports.

Our sizing is gender neutral or unisex. Please use our size chart to compare your measurements and select the corresponding size. If you're in-between sizes we recommend sizing up.

The fit of our performance tees is a slimmer, athletic fit. If you want a looser fit we recommend sizing up. Our merino wool has exceptional stretch and rebound and can fit a wide range of body types.

The sleeve length and overall length are meant to be a bit longer than average to allow for comfortable wear on a bike. The rear hem is also slightly curved and longer than the front for additional coverage when on the bike.

Best lightweight hoodie ever
Wore this off and on during a 8 day backpacking trip. Never got smelly. Always dry and comfy. Good for end of the day warmth, as well as sun protection during the hike. The best summer addition to my outdoor gear.

The only outdoor layer you’ll need
Summer 2025 — 3 days paddling and fishing in NH followed by 2 days hiking and a morning fishing in Baxter State Park. The daytime layer of choice was Pinebury's summer hoodie sun shirt. With clear skies and temps approaching 90 every day, it kept the blazing sun at bay (without the need to slather on sunscreen) and the mosquitos, horse flies and black flies away. I never once felt too hot in the long sleeves. And unlike a polyester counterpart, a rinse in the lake or stream before bed and a clothes line to dry over night, was all it took to keep it fresh, odor free, and ready for the next day's adventures.

Just took a trip to Colorado fishing an high alpine mountain lake. The sun was intense, but the breeze was cool. This shirt was perfect.

Super comfy and light!
I'm 6' 2", 180 lb and the Medium fits me perfectly. I took this on a 6-day backpack on Section K of the Pacific Crest Trail Sept 5-10 2025 and slept in it and wore it around camp after the sun went down and before it came up. Whenever this hoodie wasn't enough, I'd wear it over a short-sleeve baselayer. If it had actually been cold, this hoodie would not have been enough by itself but when you have layers to work with, it was an awesome piece of kit.

Weird smell
I just received the first piece. Everything looks good such as color and style. But I have to put it into the washer first since the weird smell is so strong. I did not experience this kind of issue when I bought icebreaker or smartwool...

Thanks for your feedback, Julian. The smell you noticed comes from the production and finishing process at the knitting mill and can sometimes linger a bit when garments are brand new. It is not harmful, and a quick wash will take care of it. After the first wash or two, the odor should be gone and the fabric will soften up nicely.
